Creating a case for content acquisitions in organizations with solo librarian or no information center scenarios requires an equal amount of creativity. At the same time, the need for scientific literature to advance research and development and make the pipeline ever more advanced and diverse, does not stop. To allow researchers and idea makers, those true key participants in any corporation’s innovation and success, a clear path to discovery, it is essential to provide broad content coverage.
Though eBooks allow that breadth of traditional or limited content to expand, the optimal collection development, coupled with discoverability and adoption are the success formula necessary in proving the eBook collection case. Between balancing the budget and acquiring the right eBook collection - subject coverage/platform functionality/usage-adoption, the information center or another role tasked with the project have a lot at stake.
This paper reviews the eBook collection development case in the corporate sector (with an information center, a solo librarian or another content access scenario) across industries by assessing current practices; and aims to provide a best practice for making the case for, acquiring, and managing eBook collections by journalizing the process.
